Trip

The nighties had it's moments too.

Right now

The 80s, a few years that will echo in eternity. Hardly merely "the 80s" anymore. Short recap of what has happened in the history of the world: nothing, nothing, nothing - the 80s - nothing, nothing, nothing.

Life

Apparently, mankind is worthless. That is the feeling one is left with after reading the shallow tales of Svenskt näringsliv. Not only shallow, they are on the brink of evil, with their easygoing rethoric flames towards any movement that might see a problem somewhere in the wide world of trade. History will judge us my friend. Tales like this will not be viewed with kind judgements.

Fortunately, there are glimpses of hope, in mankind. Older, wiser and more humbling approaches to life, do exist. And their flames burn brighter, slower and harder.

Young at heart

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
- Dylan Thomas

Agrrrr, grrrr, agrrrrammis!

Good news rarely come alone as we say here at the Hybris HQ. And today Pitchfork listed the Familjen video "Det snurrar i min skalle" as One of this years best 50 music videos just after the very same video has been nominated for a swedish Grammy award <---Vote! (No, seriously, vote, do it. It takes one fucking klick of your day, do it.)

To celebrate that we want to highlight this ENORMOUSLY underrated Familjen video to Hög luft. Web version only. No Beta SPs to MTV for this we're afraid.

In other news Familjen is also Grammy nominated in the category Hip Hop/Dance/Soul so go ahead and Vote for that too! All nationalities can vote, and um, you can vote with ALL your email addresses. Nudge, nudge, know what I mean, knowaddImean, nudge, nudge? Say no more! Say no more!

Shout to the top

This is a manifesto.

Let it be heard, that on this day, we the few and righteous bla bla Nah, we have already published a manifesto! Long time ago, way, way back in 2004. From the start we said it out loud: Pop music deserves some respect. That is still our focus, still our aim.

Last week we held a first seminar in Stockholm. Besides the original line-up we were joined by Rasmus Fleischer too.
It was never said out loud, but in some parts, our original aim seemed to be there all along as a background in the discussion at the seminar. We never fell down the trap. Ah, yes, the trap. It is very hard to talk about the future of music, music that deserves respect, and not fall into the trap of the filesharing debate. The filesharing debate is over. There are nothing more to discuss. Unfortenatly that is mainly what is going on. Endless talks, discussions, laws, propositions and what nots about what to do about the big 'problem' of file sharing. Not much discussion about what to do if you are lost in music however. Or why to do it. Or for whom. Or how. Or where. And so forth.

There need to be discussions though. What are we going to do with our love for music? etcetera.

Soon there will be a longer summary of that first seminar. We hope these informal gatherings will be frequent in the future(not like in the future 2050, but as in the next coming months) and bring together a lot of people that usually wouldn't meet. The file-sharing war is over, you can consider these seminars as the United Nations of the music industry. There are no knock-down solutions, but a lot of exciting things to do, talk and think about.

In other news:
This guy, Daniel Kjellsson says some words(in swedish) about the current order of things. As we say here in sweden: Väl rutet! We wouldn't mind chatting to Daniel about how the future will look.

However, we wouldn't mind talking to Carl-Johan Bonnier either. We feel that there haven't been a lot of discussions between people in this crazy business. So far the discussions have been done in small circles of friends, in confrontative style in big media or at blogs, leading up to progress in some parts but no-one is really talking. Or maybe mainly, listening.

Anyone even remotely interested in taking part in our discussions/seminars, just drop us a line and tell us who you are and stuff to contact@hybrism.com and you might tag along next time!

Peace, after all, it's christmas:

The Sweptaways new Christmas EP!

December is here and so is the annual christmas tradition of The Sweptaways christmas EP!

This year they have teamed up with Marit Bergman on lead vocals in "Christmas party". A cover of The Conctretes fantastic "Lady december" has also been recorded. From the previous EP last year this years EP also includes "Cry, cry christmas" and "Silver bells" with Magnus Carlson from weeping willows and The Gray Brigade as backing band, making this years EP a full on assault of christmas candy!

Marit Bergman:
"My friend Åsa Jacobsson, who plays keyboard with me now and then, once wrote the top 3 list of her life, and it looked like this:
1. Animals. 2. Christmas. 3. Music.
Mine is quite similar:
1. Choir singing. 2. Christmas. 3. Don’t know.
Now you see why it was impossible for me to refuse the offer of recording a Christmas song with The Sweptaways. Hope you like it."
