Hybris have started a co-publish collaboration with Warner/Chappell. The Hybris publishing arm works in new ways. Read all about it here.

The first artists that signed with our new collaboration are Monty, Palpitation and This is head. You already know about our jawdropping act Monty.

Palpitation is an abnormality of heartbeat that causes a conscious awareness of its beating, whether it is too slow, too fast, irregular, or at its normal frequency.

Palpitation is also Stockholm duo that, with the help of disguises kept both their faces and their names a secret before they debuted with the EP I'm happy now almost exactly two years ago.
By now we know that it is Mary Vejde and Ebba Carlén behind the dreamy guitar-based indie pop, but even without the masks and penguin costumes they preserve their enigmatic charm.

Palpitations self-titled, and first full-length album, are shimmering pop arrangements with soft edges.
The daydreaming the album inevitably give rise to oscillate between a peaceful and quiet desperation of a steaming desperation. Desolate electric guitars, one rigid post-punk drum machine and bittersweet, heartbreaking lyrics performed by Mary Vejdes warped, swaying voice fills each track with an astonishing variety although there is a coherent style throughout the album.
The epic grandeur that characterizes Jesus and Mary Chain "Just Like Honey" are consistently here as well, embedded in melancholy that breathes Cocteau Twins. And the closing 'In Five Years ", with its airy vocals and muffled pop melody, will be as engaging as it haunts the listener in five years as does today.

This is head

From the first time This Is Head started playing different venues and spots around their hometown of Malmö they have assumed a natural place in the centre of all things great. Their take on kraut disco meets smart indie rock fit in perfectly from the start. Since then, they have evolved into something much greater; a confident machine that seems made for the times we live in. Yet they sound timeless. The growth seems to have been rapid, but it was all at their own pace, in their own time.

0001 sounds as much like the wet streets around Möllevången square in Malmö as they do any spacious warehouse in Brooklyn or deserted parking garage in a remote part of Düsseldorf. Their curiosity has placed them anywhere and nowhere. They are as eager to consume new and old things as any blog, club or DJ out there. They have grown without any blinders on, while at the same time honing their sound in their own studio, within their own universe. They have built their songs and their confidence in themselves without feeling any pressure. They never thought of a song with the idea of sounding like Yeasayer joining up with the drummer from Neu! in an effort to play unreleased songs by U2 just so they could be mixed by Dan Lissvik from Studio and then be released by Touch & Go. That just happened.

This Is Head never had a plan, and the goal has only been to become as good as they can get. They have had time to listen to themselves, communicate and let the organic process lead them to produce songs that are fit to resonate through the music world which they belong. Songs that are as brilliant as they are.

Since the band started summer 2008 they have played at a couple of Sweden’s best venues, but also in record stores, clothes stores and various parties. A This Is Head-show is definitely something you don’t want to miss.

Nils Bech & Krazy Fiesta Arkestra – Drunk Love

Nils Bech is the Norwegian singer who blurs he borders between art and contemporary pop music. With a background from classical music he has built a position as central figure in the Norwegian club scene the last couple of years. No other artist can as Nils go from performances at the opera house or gallery openings to big outdoor festivals or club gigs – often in the same day!

In early 2010, Nils Bech’s celebrated debut “Look Back” was released on Fysisk Format in Norway, an album written and performed in close collaboration with the
sax-virtuoso and producer Bendik Giske.

In addition to Norwegian press, Nils Bech has features in Interview Magazine, Artforum, Frieze Magazine and Flash Art, to name a few. After numerous performances around the world the last couple of years, the international interest for Nils Bech has been growing as he now is receiving invitations to perform at high profile festivals and venues around Europe and the U.S. Look Back is scheduled for a international release in
September.

Krazy Fiesta is the joint spirit of Swedish musicians and phantom producers Johan Sigroth and Erik Hanspers. With a seemingly nonsense-name and having defined the new wave of independent Swedish contemporary music since 2006 , the approach of KF is not limited to one musical expression. Blind to the traditional division of genres, KF is as comfortable in the techno club as in the obscure pop basement.

Apart from a number of , celebrated bootleg productions, KF has recently collaborated with and remixed an array of artists including Familjen, Mapei, Looptroop Rockers, Boeoes Kaelstigen, Trevor Loveys, Juvelen, Skatebård and Annie. KF has been featured on labels such as Hybris, Adrian Recordings, Trunkfunk and Digitalo/Kompakt to name a few. Later in 2010 KF will unveil a collabo with South-African Spoek Mathambo, to be released on BBE.

Lately, the KF spirit has been the talk of the town all over: From the art scene of Bergen via the Blogosphere to the DJs of BBC Radio 1, and the KF DJ-sets have been heard from Scandinavia to London and Berlin.

Is Drunk Love then to be seen as the return of the acoustic, a club anthem for the disillusioned or a summer tune flavoured by 60s pop? Perhaps all these descriptions are accurate.

The release also features a big room remix by Leo Nathorst-Böös, familiar from notorious Swedish techno-act Boeoes Kaelstigen.

We are proud to announce that Idiot kids album "Darkness in our house" are released at Hybris today! The album have been released in Sweden as a physical CD at the small label Slottet. It was made in a very limited pressing and are sold out and practically impossible to get your hands on. The album got very fine reviews in Sweden. It was also nominated as one of the five best swedish albums of the year by the chief editor of Sonic, the leading music magazine in Sweden. This is a well kept swedish secret that too few have yet discovered. The album is a calm masterpiece.
Through our digital distributor The Orchard, the worlds leading digital distributor, the album is as of today available on all digital platforms from Rio to Tokyo.

About the band and the record:

Idiot Kid is Linus Lutti (guitar and lead vocals) and Ann-Sofie
Lundin (piano, organ and backing vocals). Together they create
ornamented and mysterious pop music, dark and tender at the same time.
This is their debut album, "Darkness In Our House". It is a most
appealing and relevant contribution emerging from the wide pop scene
in Sweden, in lovelyness on par with the holy bodies made by Loney
Dear, Wildbirds & Peacedrums and José González.

Idiot Kid blend sounds of folk, rock and blues but most of all their
music is their very own. In the universe of Idiot Kid, the quiet and
glistening are as vivid as the tempered and regretful. Linus voice is
raspy and self-exposing, vulnerable. His guitar playing manages to
stitch together the elements of finger picking, dreamy melodies and
tearing chords with an aggressive and awaiting double bass, echoing
pianos with a lonely trumpet, a harmonium or a mandolin.

The brilliant production of the "Darkness in Our House" is that of
Johan Berthling (Tape, The Tiny etc.), who is one of most original and
talented producers (as well as musicians) that our country has to
offer. His naked arrangements provide a dimension that is rare amongst
produced pop albums of today. The soundscapes in the songs are built
up with swirling frequencies and roars, making one aware that the
songs have elements of an eno-esque sense of the importance of detail
and entirety. The music/songs itself, reminds of such diverse names as
Will Oldham and Colin Blunstone, Tindersticks and Vetiver. But there
is always something else behind that, a je-ne-sais-quoi that makes
these references nothing more than just so. This is part of the
uniqueness that is so striking about Idiot Kid.

During a year of intense playing around Stockholm, the duo of Linus
and Ann-Sofie has frequently been joined, on stage as well as in the
studio, by several talented musicians ranging from a broad spectrum of
musical fields. Andreas Söderström, usually in his tributed solo
project ASS as well as Swedish constellations Barr, Pallin and Blood
Music, is a guest of Idiot Kid's, playing everything from harmonium
and trumpet to glockenspiel and mandolin. Patric Thorman, of the
folk-psych trio Susurrus Station and the experimental jazz band Sound
of Music, to name a few, plays double and electric bass. Other
contributors include Lars Skoglund (Laakso, Moneybrother), Ola
Hultgren (Sound of Music, Loney Dear and Nicolai Dunger), Tomas
Hallonsten (Tape, Exploding Costumer), the violinist Lisa Rydberg and
Slottet's own soon-to-be superstar Jean-Louis Huhta.

About: Spotify vs Cash

Ok. There's been a lot of debate about Spotify, the revolutionary ad-supported music service where you can stream music for free. Story goes, for each played track the label/artist recieves something like 0,00000023 dollars or whatever. A number so small you have to be a microscopic germ to be intimidated by it.
And sure enough, for each play there is a very small amount of money going from Spotify to the labels and artist. At least to all the labels that does not own a part of Spotify like the four major labels do.

BUT!

Here over at HYBRIS we collaborate with the worlds largest digital distributor The Orchard. We have always done that and does not see any reason to not roll with the biggest and the best in the years ahead. That's just how we do things here. And by rolling with the biggest and the best you are represented EVERYWHERE. Try going to Portugal, we are there! Go to Japan, we are there! You can run, but you can't hide, HYBRIS music will find you! And it's our imperial fleet over at The Orchard that is colonizing the world with our music.
Going through the accounting over at Orchard you see all of all the worlds biggest music services listed. In the accounting sheet, nothing can be hidden, there it is - the deliverence - in cold hard numbers. And guess what! Spotify is number 2 with a bullet! Just after one quarter of accounting Spotify is way ahead of all competitors like Amazon, emusic and everybody else. Sure, still a long way after iTunes, but you won't build Rome in a day.

Just wanted to sort that out, so you all can get some perspective of what is actually coming out of Spotify. And on top of this there is 7 digital that just started selling mp3:s through Spotify. A service we can't evaluate yet since it haven't been up long enough.

Another promising trend is that the amount coming from Spotifys paid users are A LOT bigger if you look at the ratio money/played song. Sure, the amount of each played song is still in the area of 0,0004 something whatever. But how was the ratio before? People probably played the hell out of their CDs and LPs(We know we did) and only paid for it once.

So, in conclusion: Spotify has in less than a year managed to sail ahead of ALL the digital initiatives EVER launched at the Internet, except the iTunes store. And iTunes are not really an internet initiative is it? It would be nothing without Apples physical products like the iPod/iPhone/Mac.

Sure, all this is only valid for us, a minor indie label, but we are pretty sure we are a good example of a medium sized indie. And we are getting this kind of reports from almost all of our colleagues.

And that's that then. Except iTunes store, Spotify is by far the most succesful music service in getting money to the artists. If an artist see no money from Spotify maybe they got a shitty deal with their label?

Hur gör man för att utvecklas som artist när man redan i första singeln har ett helt eget uttryck? David Pagmar har sedan Montt Mardiés debutsingel Highschool Drama tacklat dilemmat genom att ta sig an själsmässiga Ben Hur-projekt. Dubbelalbum, gästspel i massor och storslagna arrangemang.

Behovet av förändring och förnyelse är essentiellt för alla tänkande själar, men den takt som driver på oss i den postmoderna, nyhetsfixerade samtiden står i konflikt mot några av våra mest grundläggande behov. Samhörighet, trygghet, äkthet och kärlek. Resultatet av David Pagmars metamorfos är att han gått från att vara den populärkulturellt fullmatade Montt Mardié till att bara vara sig själv.

Men skaparjaget är inte David Pagmar. Det är Monty. Det är det namn han tagit när han nu presenterar sitt debutalbum på svenska vid namn 2010. Ett debutalbum som spränger Montt Mardiés popmusikaliska referensmall till atomer. Men det har inte varit en enkel process. David minns:

"När planet landade på Newark hade skrivkrampen varit konstant i över två månader. Jag hade rest runt mellan städer och länder men inget kunde få den att släppa. Men så, på ett motellrum i Morningside Hights kom orden. 10 låtar på 10 dagar. 10 låtar som suttit fast långt, långt där inne. Jag spelade dom för min vän Jay och hans ord "This is your best work yet man. I don't have a clue what you're singing about but it's really awesome" kommer för alltid att eka i mitt huvud. Jag hade hittat hem. På andra sidan Atlanten."

En annan akilleshäl för Monty har länge varit prestationsångesten som kommit med sökandet efter den perfekta finishen. Även här är den enligt logiken inverterade bilden av närhet kontra avstånd central. Skivan är inspelad live i en studio vid havet i Varberg och mixad i Los Angeles, New York och Berlin av superproducenten Ollie Olson (Snoop Dogg, Robyn mm). Låtarna har helt enkelt fått hitta sin slutgiltiga form i producentens sinne. Något som givit Monty en palett med sprakande färger.

Debutalbumet kommer den 10 mars 2010.
